Anne Frank Exhibit
|
| Location: |
Coronado Center |
| Description: |
Sixty-four years after Anne Frank’s death, her short life of 15 years is still making a difference. The New Mexico Human Rights Projects (NMHRP) will bring the bilingual Anne Frank: A History for Today Exhibition to New Mexico from February 1 – March 31 at Coronado Center.
The exhibit is designed to help students develop more awareness on how to take responsibility when confronted with prejudice and discrimination and to challenge visitors to think about tolerance, mutual respect and human rights. .
NMHRP brought a similar Anne Frank exhibit to New Mexico in both 1995 and 2000. It was visited by more than 180,000 people statewide and included over 250 volunteers. The exhibit return provides students and adults the opportunity to come together to learn about respect and peace.
Activities planned around the 2010 Anne Frank Exhibit include a film series, plays and presentations, tree of hope, art exhibit, video productions, radio programming, lectures, volunteer opportunities as Docents, presentations by authors, book readings, and book sales provided by many community partners.
“When we educate students we empower them to speak out when they see an injustice,” said Regina Turner, executive director of NMHRP. “Ultimately what makes a difference is personal responsibility.”
Anne Frank: A History for Today was made possibly by NMHRP and the generous sponsors Walmart, Coronado Center, Grubb and Ellis, Citadel Broadcasting, Comcast and Clear Channel Outdoor.

Wine, Chile & Clifford Bailey
September 18 - October 30, 2009
Opening reception: Saturday, September 26, 6:00
Timed to celebrate the unique and robust flavors of New Mexico during the 19th Annual Wine & Chile Fest comes a sultry fall show filled with whimsy and romance featuring new work by internationally renowned artist Clifford Bailey. Wine tasting with a local vineyard & tasty New Mexican hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Clifford BAILEY's highly individualized style of painting is often described as vibrant, exciting, and sophisticated. The artist captures the very energy and essence of Jazz and Jazz clubs as he puts his unique understanding of music into his uplifting and compelling compositions. The viewer is instantly swept up into the days of the Roaring 20's as well as the undeniable opulence and refinement of the 30's and 40's.
The stylized characters in Clifford BAILEY's work entertain the viewer through the artist's effective use of subtle and harmonious color and detail. One can sense the art of Clifford BAILEY's simplified, yet potent, brush strokes as he orchestrates his vignettes of swinging bands, sultry torch- singers, too-hip crooners, and even sophisticated symphonies.
JAZZ, in essence, developed as a musical style exploring and experimenting with vibrant and boldly improvisational use of instruments in an almost rebellious fashion. Clifford BAILEY has adapted this witches-brew formula for creativity to his unique brand of painting. As he says himself, Music has always inspired me. When I see the faces of people under the spell of music, I have an urge to capture their expressions on canvas. There is an emotional intensity I find fascinating. And then there is the rhythm of painting itself, the way the brush slaps and strokes the canvas, the color combinations and shapes of compositions and form; it's all music to me. -Clifford Bailey
Given his already robust following and the consistent demand for his paintings, the future seems bright for Clifford BAILEY and his artwork. And as such a popular and successful artist at this pivotal dawn of the 21st century, it is likely that Clifford BAILEY's art future may very well become art history.
