|
| Location: |
Mesa Public Library |
| Description: |
The Los Alamos Photography Club (LAPC) will be hosting its annual photography show for 2013 at the Mesa Public Library from Monday, March 4 through Friday March 29.
Photos should be dropped off at the Library Saturday, March 2. Non-club members are encouraged to limit their entries to no more than three photos.
There will be LAPC representatives present from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2 to receive them. Participants should pick up their entries Saturday, March 30.
All photos should have a wire across the back for hanging or they may not be able to be hung as the serrated hangers and small rings on the back of some frames do not work with gallery hangers.
Photos will be hung in the library 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 3. Anyone, who submits a photo, is invited to hang photos ... so bring a hammer, a pair of needle-nose pliers and a tape measure if possible.
The opening reception is 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 4 and participants are asked to bring some sort of finger food for the opening.
For complete information and registration instructions, visit http://dougsview.com/lapc/.
Information also is available on the LAPC website: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/la-photoclub/ and the Los Alamos Adobe User Group website: http://laaug.wordpress.com/.
Village Arts on DP Road is offering a 15 percent discount on custom matting and framing for show participants ... to get the discount, work must be submitted to them no later than Feb. 11.

El otoño mío es tu primavera
|
| Location: |
Center for Contemporary Arts |
| Description: |
Miguel Arzabe's work is an intimate exploration of deep influences arising from his Bolivian heritage, his ancestors, and their legends. El otoño mío es tu primavera (my autumn is your spring) combines new video and painting in an installation that references the spatial distance, the subjective understanding, and the unrelenting passage of time that exists between two homes in different hemispheres.
On two occasions, CCA will screen two new films by Miguel Arzabe. Opening night: March 15, 6-8pm in the CCA Studio
April 21, 4pm: Join Miguel and his father as they discuss the process of making Leyendas del Altiplano, and share additional stories, legends, and family tales.
Full Moon Over Galisteo, 2012, is a quiet meditation on the struggle for connection and understanding. Filmed in the desert outside the village of Galisteo, home to Lucy Lippard, author of the influential compilation on conceptual art "The Dematerialization of the Art Object," this piece is an homage to new forms of art-making.
Leyendas del Altiplano, 2013, is a personal reinterpretation of an indigenous legend told to the artist's grandfather while working as a teacher in the Altiplano in the 1940s. He wrote and illustrated a compilation of these legends which provide the basis for this project. Featuring contributions from the artist's extended family and illustrations and photographs from Bolivian books, this short film tells the story of mountain gods who are tricked into bloody war over a beautiful woman. |

West Side Story
|
| Location: |
Popejoy Hall |
| Description: |
More than fifty years ago one musical changed theater forever. Now it's back and mesmerizing audiences once again. From the first note to the final breath, West Side Story soars as the greatest love story of all time and remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The Bernstein and Sondheim score is considered to be one of Broadway's finest and features such classics of the American musical theater as "Something's Coming," "Tonight," "America," "I Feel Pretty," and "Somewhere." As the Associated Press says, “West Side Story remains Broadway’s best dance-driven musical. Five decades have not dimmed the extraordinary choreography or the score that pulsates throughout.” |
